Little spheres of light

Become Witness

~Musing~

Can you remember the sound of silence?
Proper silence, without any man-made noise. No music or tv playing. No humming refrigerators or air conditioners. No cars, city buses, nor semi-trucks. No emergency vehicle sirens. No planes traveling far overhead. Not even cell phones ringing and dinging. No Noise.
Can you remember the last time you heard it?
The sound of a bird song? A far-off stream gently rolling? The wind passing through the trees? A pack of coyotes yipping and howling at the moon? Squirrels excitedly chattering on branches? A raft of ducks quacking around a slough? The snorts of a momma bear searching for berries? Or maybe in between all of nature’s music, you noticed the silence.
It’s always there, hiding though it does. It can be found if one is aware to it. Even in the noisy cities, though here I struggle. The undercurrent of all sounds is the silence. The no-thing where it all manifests. If you still yourself, become quiet yourself, you can witness the birth of sound. See it rise up into existence where once was naught.
It is a healing thing, to witness creation. To see god at work within me, delivering to me creation. Not to own, just to experience for a fleeting moment before it is gone again forever. Returned to the nothing from which it came. No two sounds ever the same always pulled from an infinite of pitch, tone, and duration. Mixed in an impossibly grand orchestra of other infinitely unique sound.
The miracle of existence is nothing to be solved, only experienced for but a brief moment before we each inevitably die. We are as each sound. As all creation. Suddenly out of nothing A flash of sound, a splash of color, a dash of movement, but only just for a moment and then it’s gone. Such is all things.
Don’t take my word though. Rather find silence and become witness.
