~Snap Shot~
I stopped the truck and turned it off. The smoke was thicker today than it had been. It was really bothering my eyes, which burned dry. It had been smoky all summer, but today was noticeably thicker.
I got out of the truck and got started on my rounds. I would always make a lap to pick up any garbage left by careless campers. While I was going around I noticed just how thick the smoke on the lake had gotten, I could just barely see across. The view was somehow rather enticing.
I put down my little garbage picker and walked out onto the rickety old dock. It creaked its protest but carried me faithfully out on the lake. It was dead calm out this early in the morning. Not so much as a ripple could be seen.
I felt a sudden surge of energy and let out a whoop! Just gave a quick holler into the smoke. I stood still on the edge of the dock and waited to hear if I’d get a response.
