Piles of trees bulldozed

If Earth Be Eden

~Poetry~

Imagine the Garden of Eden
Our so-lost paradise
A place of endless abundance
Where every need is met
Succulent satisfying fruit for all
Given by a gracious god
I’ve seen flashes of this Eden
In those places unspoilt
Tis not yet lost
Despite our best efforts
The garden thrives in wild places
Though fewer and fewer
And so further and further
Must our pilgrimage lead
To still sit in those hallowed spaces
Enjoying the fruits of life
Oh how words fail expression
For a meaningful description of this joy
The simple joy of life
To see and so too participate
In this miracle

Now see this
We too eat of that forbidden fruit
Just as Adam
Just as Eve
We want this knowledge
Power to decide good and evil
To judge the world around
Categorizing within limited values
Good or Evil
See how now we talk?
None will take responsibility
Evil is always out there
Yet none can see
How evil they themselves be
They are good, the other evil
A notion built on our sinful knowledge
Woe be that original sin
A foolish pride born
The first bitter taste of hunger
Rather than look within the self
We slew our brothers, our sisters
Jealously mistaking them as satiated
As so Cain for Abel
Now stuck endlessly in retribution
Tit exchanged for tat
Armies now marching to murder
More and ever more their kin
The garden so crushed below
