Die Rich

~Poetry~

Those whom die rich
Often lived poorly
Without meaningful wealth
and so pursued things
Forever disappointed
Yet always hopeful
The next thing will do
That one thing
To make me happy
I just have to find it
It’s out there somewhere
Marriage, kids, the house
And then too
The second marriage
The fast car
The bigger house
All fleeting moments
Leaving in their wake
Thy feeling alone, empty
Frustrated in disappointment
For the wealth they seek
Can never be so found
In the things of the world
Only offering mild distraction
A very brief respite
From the pain of a poor spirit
Foolish indeed to enrich
The doomed body
And starve an eternal soul
